Demonstrators Rally Outside Burlington ICE Facility, Demand Congressional Inspection
LEXINGTON — July 3, 2025 — Demonstrators rallied outside the Burlington, Massachusetts ICE field office on July 3, calling the site the primary immigration enforcement operations hub for all of New England. Reverend Andrew Harris, minister of Burlington United Church of Christ approximately one mile away, led remarks and described his attendance as a religious calling, saying his faith compels him to "stand up for love for all people in our communities, regardless of where they were born, regardless of their immigration status." Harris asserted that the facility, which is not formally registered as a detention center, is being used to hold detainees in inhumane conditions in violation of an agreement with the town of Burlington and possibly in violation of law, though he did not name specific documents. A second unidentified speaker demanded that members of Congress exercise their authority to enter the building unannounced and report publicly on conditions inside, calling the government's actions "mass detention and mass deportation" with no access to due process. The rally was filmed by Lexington's community access TV.
