Lexington schools open the year with new high school still on track for 2029. Superintendent Julie Hackett told staff at the districtwide convocation that a Dec. 8 debt exclusion vote keeps the new Lexington High School building on schedule, framing the year around "The Odyssey" and warning that "a large language model can't take the place of relationships." Lexington Education Association President Robin Stryzik said the union is simultaneously negotiating three open contracts covering roughly 1,300 members, crediting last year's collective action with forcing the town's finance committee "to pause and agree to reconsider how the budget is determined." Guest speaker Dr. Hua Wang, a Boston University professor honored this year by the Massachusetts AAPI Commission, was recognized for raising close to $200,000 for COVID-19 relief.
The district also honored facilities employee Bob Godoy for 47 years of service.
