Rep. Clark Warns of Medicaid Cuts, Urges Democrats to Pressure Swing-District Republicans

LEXINGTON — February 27, 2025 — U.S. House Minority Whip Katherine Clark warned Middlesex County Democrats of sweeping Medicaid cuts and outlined a three-pronged strategy of litigation, legislation, and mobilization at a February 27 town hall in Lexington. Clark told the crowd of more than 90 legal challenges have been filed against the new administration, with House Democrats winning consistently in court, while depositions of DOGE personnel were set to begin. She named more than a dozen competitive-district House Republicans — including California's David Valadao, whose district has 470,000 Medicaid enrollees, and Nebraska's Don Bacon, who reversed a public pledge not to support large Medicaid cuts — as targets for constituent pressure ahead of a March 14 government-funding deadline. Clark acknowledged House Democrats are "about 10 years behind the Republicans" in reaching voters through social media and podcasts, and endorsed a full ban on congressional stock trading after a young attendee called it the single biggest obstacle to engaging skeptical younger voters.
