Lexington Historical Commission Approves Additions at Two Historic Homes

LEXINGTON — August 20, 2025 — Lexington Historical Commission clears additions at two historic homes and orders fresh inspection of a neglected property. The commission voted unanimously Wednesday to approve rear additions at 4 Wardman Circle and 18 Highland Avenue, finding both properties historically significant and the proposed work sensitive to their historic character. Architect Dan Heisel presented the 18 Highland project as an aging-in-place renovation for homeowners Bob and Marty Cavall, featuring a new family room, accessible bathroom, and first-floor laundry, all invisible from the street. The commission also voted unanimously to ask the building commissioner to re-inspect 25 Moon Hill Road — currently under a demolition delay order — for water infiltration, mold, pests, and security, after a member reported that developers had withdrawn their demolition proposal for the site. Commission members Wendell and Susan agreed to prepare a Preservation Massachusetts most-endangered nomination for the property, with a deadline of September 3.
