LEXINGTON — The town rolled out LexSortSmart, a new online tool designed to walk residents through what belongs in the trash, recycling or compost bin, as Lexington keeps building toward a broader overhaul of its waste collection program set for summer 2027.

TOWN HALL The Department of Public Works introduced LexSortSmart this week, billing it as a one-stop resource for questions about collection and disposal rules in town. Town officials have said the tool is meant to cut down on sorting mistakes as Lexington works through several linked waste initiatives, including new fees for special collection items that take effect September 1 and the ongoing search for a modernized, cost-controlling collection model by 2027.

COMMUNITY & ARTS The town's Summer Concert Series continues Friday, August 14, with a performance by Kadak Chai, the latest act in the free outdoor series that has drawn crowds to town green space throughout the summer.

ELSEWHERE IN THE NEWS "Sing with Lexington Pops Chorus," per a Patch calendar listing, announces an open rehearsal-style event at Hancock United Church of Christ on Massachusetts Avenue where residents can join the chorus for an evening of singing. The listing gives a Tuesday, September 8, date and location but no further details on membership or cost (read it at https://patch.com/massachusetts/lexington/calendar/event/20260908/3aeaed4b-8c29-4f3c-a24a-6986e3ac0e79/sing-with-lexington-pops-chorus).

COMING UP The School Committee's Policy Subcommittee meets Thursday, August 13. The Board of Appeals holds remote public hearings the same day on cases at 20 Muzzey Street and 323 Marrett Road. LexFarm's Walking Wednesdays program continues Wednesday, August 12.
