School Building Committee · Meeting of September 1, 2026

Lexington School Building Committee locks in cheaper field house track design as DEP wetlands appeal risks up to $20 million in added costs. Members voted 11-0 to keep the high school field house's existing concrete slab and banked track, resurfacing it rather than building a $3.3 million raised platform system, a choice project staff said yields roughly a $500,000 credit to contingency. Project team member Lorraine told the committee the Massachusetts DEP's site-walk on the appealed wetlands order of conditions drew more than 100 attendees, with a ruling due by September 21 unless extended, and warned that delay costs already range from $1 million to $20 million depending on timing, with $40 million in awarded scope already affected.

Athletic Director Naomi said the chosen design "really fits the needs of most, if not all of our stakeholders." Concrete work bids September 30.
