Lexington Warns Applicants of Scam Emails Impersonating Town Boards
LEXINGTON — The Town of Lexington issued a fraud warning Tuesday evening after officials said scammers are continuing to target residents with active permit applications before the Planning Board, Historic Districts Commission, Conservation Commission and other town bodies.
TOWN HALL The town's News Flash alert, posted July 21, said fraudulent emails impersonating the town have continued to reach applicants with permits currently pending before multiple boards and committees. The notice did not specify what the emails ask for but directed residents to a details page on the town website for guidance on identifying the scam.
Separately, the town is promoting LexSortSmart, a new tool designed to help residents sort out what can and can't be recycled or discarded under Lexington's waste-collection rules. The Lexington Human Rights Commission has also compiled a webpage of local immigration resources, aimed at keeping residents informed about immigration rights, protections and travel guidance. And the town said it has partnered with Davey Resource Group to develop an Urban Forest Master Plan intended to set a long-term vision for Lexington's tree canopy and urban forestry program.
