State Confirms West Nile Virus Near Lexington, Town Urges Caution

LEXINGTON — State health officials have confirmed West Nile virus in several communities near Lexington, prompting the town to renew mosquito-safety guidance this week as the risk period continues into early fall.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced on Aug. 21 that West Nile virus has been detected in mosquito samples from several communities neighboring Lexington. The town has pointed residents to its mosquito-borne illness information page for guidance on reducing exposure, including draining standing water and using repellent during peak mosquito hours at dawn and dusk. Town officials did not report any human cases in Lexington as of this week.
