Lexington's Planning Board approved a 15-unit Wood Street development, adding a last-minute archaeological survey requirement after a fight with the National Park Service. The board voted 5-0 to approve Seaver Properties LLC's project at 114 Wood Street, abutting Minuteman National Historical Park, after receiving more than 200 letters nationwide objecting to the site's location inside the park's administrative boundary. Attorney Jonathan Silverstein called the new survey condition "a poison pill" that could cost "hundreds of thousands of dollars," while Associate Member Michael Leon countered, "if it costs $5,000, $10,000 or $25,000, it is what it is." The developer's principal pledged $10,000 toward the survey's cost.
Thirteen of the 15 units will be market rate, down from an original 21-unit proposal.
