LEXINGTON — The Lexington Board of Health voted to adopt the 2022 FDA Food Code and approved a private well variance for a historic home relocation. Acting chair Jillian Tong led the remote meeting in the absence of Chair Wendy Heiger-Vernays, with members Shula Escott, Sue Wolf-Fordham and Dr. Geller voting 4-0 to adopt the new code, effective May 1, 2027, and 4-0 to amend bylaw Article 13 accordingly.
Staff member Alicia McCartan said the code adds sesame as a ninth labeled allergen and tightens shellfish traceability to seven invoice data points. The board also voted 4-0 to approve a well variance for 790 Waltham Street, where John and Rosalina Carroll relocated the historic Hosmer House after being denied municipal water access by the town engineer, an Algonquin Gas easement and the state highway department. Wolf-Fordham separately flagged the term "homebound" in staff reports as "on its way to being offensive." Staff reported roughly 900 vaccines administered across eight fall clinics and said a town crematory study committee voted 2-4 against recommending the project move forward.
