LEXINGTON — The Lexington School Committee reviewed MCAS equity data showing just 36 percent of Black students in grades six through eight scored proficient or higher in math, a figure Member Mona Roy said meant the district was "failing the majority of Black students." Director of Data and Strategy Maureen Kavanaugh reported systemwide gains, including 90 percent of students proficient in math and 84 percent in English by grade 10, and said the Black student math-proficiency rate had roughly doubled since 2023. The committee delayed a vote on nine schools' innovation plans until site councils formally approve them, and voted unanimously to support Article 3 of the 2026 Special Town Meeting warrant, a stabilization-fund transfer that includes special education costs. Staff reported a $151.7 million fiscal 2027 budget, with 11.3 percent spent through the first quarter.
