Lexington's Sal Freelich reaches World Series with the Brewers
Lexington is celebrating Brewers player Sal Freelich, a hometown native the Select Board says may be the first Lexingtonian to reach the World Series; a community watch party is being planned.
LEXINGTON --
COMMUNITY -- Select Board member Doug Lucente told colleagues at the board's Oct. 19 meeting that Sal Freelich, a Lexington native who plays for the Brewers, is advancing to the World Series. Lucente said the board believes Freelich is the first Lexingtonian to reach the World Series, and he noted that the town previously declared May 24, 2024 "Sal Freelich Day" after Freelich played his first major league game at Fenway Park. Lucente said community members are organizing a watch party or other events to celebrate the achievement, with details to come.
TOWN -- The Lexington High School building project, which includes a redesigned athletic practice track and field house, is moving forward after the appeal period on the Conservation Commission's order of conditions passed without an appeal being filed, Select Board Chair Joe Pato said at the Oct. 19 meeting. To make up time lost to state environmental-permitting delays, the design team has shifted from hydraulic rock breaking to blasting, a change endorsed by the Permanent Building Committee and the Noise Advisory Committee. Board member Mark Sandeen said the switch is expected to shorten the work from roughly 14 weeks to about six and will be less disruptive to the school day, with blasting limited to two sessions per day. Pato said the schedule change carries an estimated $2.5 million to $5 million cost, expected to be covered by project contingency funds.
