LEXINGTON — The Lexington Affordable Housing Trust debated whether a "true 10 percent" affordable-housing goal was achievable, citing an analysis showing it would take roughly 44 years at current funding. Trustee Mark Zandine said $3 million a year yields about nine new units through leveraged projects, prompting the chair to say "I get nervous when we say we need $3 million to create nine units." Trustees scaled an initial 120-unit, five-year target down to 50 units over three years. Separately, the trust's pilot rental assistance program drew 36 applications, with 20 eligible for a July 30 lottery and checks targeted for the week of August 24.
The Lexington Housing Authority is also weighing expanding its North Street project from 16 units toward 32 ahead of an August 14 voucher deadline.
